Welcome to NeuroHaven Therapies! π
Weβre excited to launch the NeuroHaven Therapies blog, a space devoted to exploring neurodiversity, mental wellness, and holistic healing. This inaugural post serves as a brief introduction to who we are, what we do, and why we take a distinctive, strengths-based, and trauma-informed approach to counselling.
What is NeuroHaven Therapies?
Situated in East Brisbane, Queensland, NeuroHaven Therapies is a practice founded on the understanding and celebration of neurodiversity. Our central mission is to help you Find Your Clearer Path through neuro-focused, trauma-informed counselling.
We provide specialised therapy that integrates brain-based healing methods designed to promote recovery and build resilience. Each therapeutic journey is carefully tailored to align with the unique neurological profile of the individual, recognising and honouring their distinct strengths and challenges.
Our approach is rooted in evidence-based practices that address the complexities of trauma while highlighting personal strengths, ensuring a nurturing and empowering pathway to mental wellness. At NeuroHaven Therapies, we believe that true healing comes from a comprehensive understanding of the brain and its diverse ways of being.
We recognise that brains are wired in numerous unique waysβwhether you identify as Autistic, ADHD, dyslexic, or simply feel that your way of experiencing the world doesn't fit a conventional mould. Our practice is a haven, a safe space where you don't have to "mask" or conform. Instead, we focus on empowering resilience through brain-based therapy, working collaboratively to address challenges and enhance overall quality of life, always keeping in mind the layered impact of your life experiences, including trauma experiences.
Our Unique Approach: Strengths-Based and Trauma-Informed Care
Traditional therapy often centres on deficits or what needs to be fixed. We flip that script.
Our therapeutic model is primarily strengths-based, neuro-affirming, and deeply trauma-informed. This means we:
Validate Your Experience: We start by acknowledging that your challenges often stem from navigating a world not designed for your brain and from the potential for greater vulnerability to trauma, emotional overwhelm, and chronic stress, rather than a personal failing.
Prioritise Safety and Trust: Counselling only works if you feel safe. We are committed to creating a judgment-free zone where we emphasise choice, collaboration, and respect for your boundaries and pace. We recognise that past trauma can influence how you interact with the world and within the therapeutic relationship.
Work with Trauma at Your Pace: We understand that trauma, including Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and the effects of developmental or complex trauma, is often stored in the body and impacts nervous system regulation. We use gentle, evidence-based modalities β adapted for the neurodivergent brain β to help you process, integrate, and heal from trauma without being overwhelmed.
Focus on Strengths: We identify and leverage your unique abilities β be it pattern recognition, deep focus, creativity, or intense passion β to build coping strategies and resilience as you navigate healing.
Offer Tailored Support: We use evidence-based approaches, adapted specifically to be effective for the neurodivergent community, including accommodations and communication styles that honour your needs and reduce the risk of re-traumatisation.

Clinical & Reflective Supervision
Beyond our direct counselling work, we are passionate about supporting fellow professionals. We offer clinical and reflective supervision built on the same core principles:
Neuro-Affirming Lens: Helping practitioners understand and work effectively with neurodivergent clients, moving beyond deficit models.
Trauma-Informed Practice: Providing a space to process the impact of trauma work and ensure ethical, safe, and regulated care for clients.
Reflective Space: Creating a haven for practitioners to explore their own clinical challenges, enhance self-awareness, and prevent burnout.
We invite fellow counsellors, social workers, and allied health professionals to connect with us to discuss your supervision needs.
